SHOCKING FENCE
This is a wet winter problem, especially if you have powerful electric fence energiser on high. Like most properties I have metal gates, I also have electric fencing and I was finding that when the soil was saturated, I was getting electric shocks from the gate. After a fruitless search for faults and inspecting the unit's earths I was told that this problem can happen and there is a solution. Better still, it was an easy fix, I did it and it worked. The photo below should be self-explanatory. Basically, I had to earth the poles on either side of the gate with a length of tie-wire wrapped around the securing strands (the non electric tie-offs) of the electric fence and push the bottom end about 20cm into the earth- no more shocks.

KEEP TRACK OF YOUR RIDING GLOVES
Here’s a ‘hack’ that helps you keep track of those pesky riding gloves that grow legs when you need them. This ‘hack’ works for gloves that have ‘Velcro’ fastenings. Buy a strip of ‘self-stick Velcro’. One side only is needed, stick a length of it along a clean smooth surface, just stick your gloves to it when you take them off and you will always find them again. My strip is along the edge of a shelf.
